Collaborative Media Creation Project

Positively Arts established an innovative project-based learning platform designed to foster critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity among middle school students from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and interests who united to collaboratively produce a media product. Amidst a social media landscape often focused on self-promotion, Positively Arts fostered empathy, patience, and constructive communication as a means to resolve differences. Moreover, the project fostered an environment where young people can delve into their interests, acquire fresh abilities, and cultivate a sense of community. Media creation served as a visual representation of the journey, depicting the understanding gained from diverse viewpoints and the collaborative efforts that underscore our teamwork skills.

The Collaborative Media Creation Project focused on teaching research, design, and implementation of varied ideas and opinions, fostering creativity and compromise. It emphasized time management by challenging students to complete a complex project within a limited time frame, encouraging efficient resource planning and personal accountability. Cohort projects also provided practical lessons in setting achievable goals, managing budgets, and overseeing project lifecycles, culminating in a Final Showcase where they present their projects, highlighting their developed skills and collective outcomes.

Learners became more comfortable being independent when starting a project and problem solving as a result of the collaborative experience.

Students enjoyed being part of a community that engaged them in project-based work at their  school.

"As a result of my experience, I will focus on building students' confidence by providing consistent positive feedback and opportunities for self-expression, helping them feel more assured in their projects and themselves. Additionally, I will prioritize teaching stress management and organizational strategies to improve their ability to handle challenges and collaborate effectively."
