Poets in the Schools
Poetry Promise's Poets in the Schools is a Community Engagement project that engaged in Portrait-aligned learning experiences with a PK-12 partner to build bridges between education and community members. Teaching artists from Poetry Promise partnered to provide poetry workshops for Reading week and outside of school.
Students were asked to consider their strengths and reflect on their lives in prompts designed to stimulate imagination. They connected with a community of writers from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. Students were asked to consider how these prompts connect to other subjects and areas of their lives academically, socially, and emotionally. And through our latest Upstander program, students used poetry to find their voice in daily moments of challenge and to stand up for themselves and others.
