Young Filmmakers' Workshop & Showcase
Women in Film Nevada's Young Filmmakers' Workshop provided underserved high school students with an intense day of film production. Learners worked closely with mentors in small groups at a level of professionalism that might not otherwise be available to them, allowing them to succeed by finishing projects and presenting them at our film festival as part of the Young Filmmakers' Showcase.
The mentoring relationship was at the heart of the workshop. Students worked with college students and professionals from the community who planted seeds of future possibilities and civic engagement. These mentors empowered and connected with students to develop their confidence, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. Each learner had an impact on the success of the project, learned from mistakes, made choices that demonstrate integrity, and grew both individually and as a team. The Showcase at the festival offered further opportunity for civic engagement at an arts event, to feel the pride of accomplishment and to thrive in that experience.
