Equipo Academy & The Neon Museum

TNM Logo - Jennifer Kleven.jpg

The Neon Museum and Equipo Academy launched a long-term partnership to inspire students with the history of Las Vegas to create a performance event that celebrates storytelling through the arts and a bilingual tour. Many students are unaware of cultural resources available to them, denying them the opportunity to fully understand the rich history of Las Vegas, as well as the sense of belonging and connection that result when students better understand their place in their city's history.

Through this project, students discovered ways to be empowered and engaged with their community, creating art in conversation with historical pieces. They connected with a cultural institution, showing how their work is contextualized by their environment. They also learned how their work is impactful, improving their ability to think critically. Lastly, the interaction contributed to their intellectual agility and their ability to adapt to new challenges.

This project enabled visitors from around the world to enjoy a cultural experience alongside local students.

Preservation is not protection of the past, it is about passing what we have experienced on to the Future.

"It has been inspiring to work with teachers who are bringing their students to the museum to expand their perception of their world and connect them to Las Vegas stories through various areas of the arts, and it has been equally inspiring to observe how students connected with the collection. Through brainstorming sessions and their visit to the museum, the teachers have been a great asset in connecting our team to the work their students are doing in the classroom, and the students have been a great asset by helping us shape content that resonates with them and captures their interests. This directly impacts the choices we make when selecting content for the public and how to present this content, so it is more accessible to a wider audience."
